Cydectin Sheep Drench
Product Details
Gut worms can be the cause of scouring and/or poor growth in lambs and sheep. Cydectin™ Oral Sheep Drench is a ready-to-use antiparasitic. Use it to treat and control infections from internal parasites like brown stomach worms, barber pole worms, hairworms and other parasites.
With a shorter withdrawal time compared to other leading brands (7 days prior to slaughter), it is safe for all sheep except females providing milk for human consumption.
Using standard drenching equipment, administer 1 mL in the sheep’s mouth for every 11 pounds of body weight.

Unlike other wormers, Cydectin does not affect the dung beetle life cycle. Dung beetles break down manure pats. The breakdown prevents smothering of the grass and eliminates the non-grazed area next to the pat. Dung beetles are a benefit to your pasture and Cydectin is significantly less toxic to dung beetles than other popular wormers.
Specs
Cydectin™ Oral Drench for sheep is a ready-to-use solution containing 0.1% moxidectin. Moxidectin is an endectocide in the milbemycin chemical class which shares the distinctive mode of action characteristic of macrocyclic lactones. Moxidectin acts by interfering with chloride channel-medicated neurotransmission in the parasite. This results in paralysis and elimination of the parasite.
FDA approved for use in sheep. Manufactured by Elanco Animal Health.

This product gives my farm the option of rotating products, allowing the livestock to not develop immunity from the benefits of one product. My farm is reactive, not preventative, so we do not just drench the entire flock on a regular basis.

Cydectin needs to be sold in a goat formula, too. The sheep formula is ridiculously diluted for goats. My adults require 36–45 ml each, and this makes it VERY difficult to get the solution down their throats where it needs to be. Goats are very talented at twisting their heads around (making it hard to keep the syringe nozzle in their mouth, so the solution leaks out of the sides of the mouth), or they will hold the solution in their mouth without swallowing. If you’re not paying attention, they’ll hold all the solution in their mouth, and wait until you release their head, open their mouth, and it all falls out, making a huge mess, and wasting EXPENSIVE wormer.
This “trick” makes it necessary to only put small amounts in the mouth, pull out the syringe nozzle, and vigorously massage the throat while clamping the mouth closed until the goat swallows that small amount. Then repeat. This is a pain in the butt.
The key to success with worming goats is to be as quick as possible! The more time they have to think about ways to resist, the more ways they find to do it!
So, if you have small goats, fine it’s not a problem, but if you have big, smart goats, and you live in the South, where barber pole worms rule, this sheep formula is a pain. Elanco needs to make a 5% oral formula for goats.

Cydectin is the best to fight “barber pole” worms — as recommended by all of our local veterinarians. Premier 1 always has the best price anywhere and fast shipping. Highly recommended!

Not happy with product expiration date. Expires in only 8 months. Product is as it should be but it should have been good for at least a year, not 8 months.
Cynthia S from Maine
This saved my sheep from barber pole worm! Very effective. Quick shipping.
